Meat Smith Review | Nice Food, Barbecue Goodness
July 29, 2018Meat Smith, located along Telok Ayer Street, is not an entirely new venture by hotelier Loh Lik Peng of Unlisted collection. As the name essentially represent, Meat Smith is a smokehouse decorated with full metal tables and stools serving up a small offering of smoked meats such as BBQ Pork Ribs and Smoked Brisket. The one-page menu may be rather limited but the food is rather delicious.
Free Flow Southern Ice Lemon Tea SGD 5 |
The southern ice lemon tea has a unique taste that took us
by a surprise. We was too used to the sugary flavored lemon tea that when we first
tasted the drink, we thought that the cocktail was blend and diluted. However, we
grew to love it because of the fruity notes we detected in the drink. It’s
mildly addictive and refreshing. Best part, the drink is refillable with no
extra cost.
We ordered two side dishes. The cornbread was a delight
treat. It was drenched with honey and served alongside with soften butter. The
mellow and neutral tasting cake pairs very well with the main course. However
we found that the cake was a bit stale and dry. Maybe steaming helps?
Pork Mac and Cheese SGD 9 |
The pork mac and cheese had a deep and rich taste. It was
very creamy too. We love that it has an underlying smokiness that make this mac
and cheese so different from the usual ones. We suspect that the chef blended
grilled capsicum into the sauce to create the smoky flavor. I could also taste
bacon and onion. A small bowl of this concussion would have make anyone feel full
and satisfied.
BBQ Pork Ribs - BBQ Glaze & Baked Beans SGD 24 |
The bbq pork rib was extremely flavorful and delicious. The
pork rib was slapped with bbq sauce and served with baked bean. The meat was
tender but still maintain its bite. Fork and knife just won’t do justice to the
meat and we decided to eat by our hand. The sweetness from the meat complements
well with the tartness of the sauce. We always love the burn end of the ribs.
It’s crispy and smoky. Adds another level of flavor to the dish
Brisket - 14hrs Smoked Brisket, Sauerkraut SGD 28 |
The beef brisket was our favorite so far. The meat was so
soft that it takes no effort to chew at all. Also, because the brisket was so
fatty, the meat literally melts in your melt. The sauce was very similar to a
bbq sauce just that the consistency of the sauce is thinner. The star was
definitely the brisket but it wouldn’t be the same without the help of the
coleslaw. The coleslaw was marinated with a spicy mayo-lemon dressing that cuts
the oiliness of the meat. It’s because of this acidity that we didn’t get sick of
eating an entire rather fatty chunk of meat
Overall, we like the place for it’s no nonsense menu, food
and service. The server knows when a good time to refill our water without us asking
for it. The food was well executed, fresh and delicious. No doubt we will come
back for their beef brisket and southern ice lemon tea. p.s We hope to see more meat cut selection
