Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant At Golden Mile Complex

June 26, 2017

Golden Mile Complex, also know as “Little Thailand” is an old building with many hidden gems and catering mainly to the Thai community in Singapore, it houses many Thai clubs, shops, tourist and ticketing agencies, and most importantly, it is famous for their authentic Thai food which is also friendly for the pocket ;)

We were definitely spoilt for choice upon stepping inside Golden mile complex as we were greeted by an appetising aroma of Thai herbs wafting out from the restaurants surrounding us. Our latest discovery among the many eateries was Diandin Leluk.

If you are looking for a nice and comfortable setting to sit in and have a nice catch up session with your friends over a hearty meal, Diandin Leluk is definitely a place to go.

The venue was brightly lit with white lights (which allows you to see the food very clearly and eat under a good lighting) unlike majority of the eateries in the vicinity which was pretty dim. The eatery was fairly neat and clean, with displays of their specialities on boards hanging around the restaurant, which aided us in choosing our dishes for the night among the plentiful dishes available on the menu.

Tom Yum Soup (SGD 12/S 22/M 32/L)
To keep the soup hot, it was served and warmed in a stainless steel hot pot. I believe that the soup is made from scratch with authentic Thai ingredient. The chilli hits at the back of my throat and it was ‘shiokkkkk’ [sheer pleasure and happiness]. Even my friend who couldn’t take spices drank to the last drip. Every sip I took, the flavours slowly unfold and it gets better and better. The seafood in the soup was generous and plenty. In my opinion, the soup was worth ordering.

Prawn Cake (SGD 12/4pcs 15/5pcs 18/6pcs)
When the dish arrive, the first thing I noticed was the shape of the prawn cake. It resemble a hybrid of a breaded curry bun and a donut. The flavour was straightforward. The taste is pretty much SEAWAVES frozen prawn ball from NTUC, coated with breadcrumb. It looks like homemade though. For SGD3 a piece, I feel that it was overpriced.

Pandan Leaf Chicken (SGD 12/4pcs 15/5pcs 18/6pcs)
Out of all the dishes, this was my favorite. It has a beautiful golden exterior and since they use chicken thigh, it is still moist and tender. The best bits came from the burnt end of the chicken. Since the chicken is not fully wrapped in the pandan leaf, some part were left exposed to the hot oil, making it more crunchy and crisp.

Stir Fried Chicken with Basil Leaves and Chili (SGD 10/S 15/M 20/L)

Next on the list is the Stir Fried Chicken with Basil Leaves & Chilli. Take note, weak stomach avoid this at all cost. Phew! I had a rough battle that night. It is worth it? Heck yeah! The sauce was the star of the dish. It has that ‘wok hei ’ taste that I enjoy alot. It was the best dish to served along side with rice.

Steamed Thai Otah (SGD 12/6pcs)
The Steamed Thai Otah came in 6 pieces. Each wrapped by banana leaf in cubes was topped individually with coconut cream. The fillings were quite simple and straightforward - the usual otah fillings such as minced fish and squid. However, the otah was too spicy for my friends. The spiciness started after one to two bites from the otah. The amount of seafood filling added into the otah paste were also not proportionate. The otah would be better if it was less spicy and had more seafood filling in it.

Mango with Sticky Rice (SGD 6)
The Mango with Sticky Rice was quite big in portion. It was sufficient for a table of 4 persons. They mangoes were slightly sweet and sour, while the rice, which was topped with coconut cream, was very sweet. However, the rice was quite chewy and the mangoes that was served looked quite pale and dull. The dish would be much better if it was also served chilled.

Red Ruby (SGD 3)
The Red Ruby was served in a small bowl with ice cubes. The amount of water chestnut added to it was also just right. Every scoop there were bits of water chestnuts to munch on. However, I feel that the ice cubes shouldn't be added, because after it melts the sweetness of the dessert is diluted. If it was served chilled without the ice cubes would be the best.

Thai Ice Tea (SGD 1.80) | Ice Green Tea (SGD 1.80)
Two of the drinks we tried was the Thai Iced Tea and Iced Green Tea. The Thai Ice tea is a value for money as it was not too overly sweet and rich in flavour. The tea powder, sugar and milk were all added in the right amount. Delicious! As for the Iced Green Tea, the drink was easy on the throat and helps to mellow down the spiciness.  I preferred this over the signature Thai Ice Tea.

Food was not extraordinary nor was it terribly bad. I think I was expecting more since it was highly recommended. However considering the travelling time, quality of food and price, I think I would just settle down with neighbourhood Thai restaurant.

Expected Damage per person: SGD 6 - 20
Overall, a ‘I was expecting more’ 1 ninja star
