FatPapas - Halal Burger Joint on Bali Lane

June 18, 2017

Following foodgasmic roars we found ourselves in a long queue that led us to the ultimate halal burger stop in town.

Front Entrance of the Restaurant - A Busy day for Fatpapas
So, long story cut short, Fatpapas is the halal version of Fatboys, located down Bali lane in- filling greedy tummies with massive burgers, ribs, shakes and what not, ever since their founder Sheikh Haikel, suggested the idea of “halal burgers” to his partner Bernie.

Despite the 40-minute queue and sighs we were heartily ushered to a table for two downstairs by the humble Haikel (new title maybe?) himself, who took time to go to each table ensuring his customers comfort, giving the restaurant a little fam vibe in its amped up two-storied chic building, bright red lights screaming “Fatpapas” with its interior walls gracing blots of burger themed graffiti here and there.

Strawberry Milkshake (SGD 10++)

Root Beer Float (SGD 6++)

While assuming a reasonable delay, we were face-palmed with our food in exactly 8 minutes. (Impressive in spite of the jam). First came the Milkshake and float. And boy! Although the milkshake didn’t have the freak-shake look it deserved, it was neatly served in a tall glass topped with toasted marshmallows (for free), and a definite beauty on the inside! The very first gulp got me thinking how ice cream and fresh strawberries alone synced so well. The root beer float came in a clichéd mason jar with a good scoop of ice cream to side the tang.

Beef Wimpy (SGD 15.00++)
The top dogs arrived as we sipped on our drinks and we weren’t surprised of the size ‘cause we saw those massive burger babies make their way to other tables as we waited. The wimpy was HUGE (for someone with a lion's’ appetite, maybe not) and by huge, I don’t mean it was stuffed with salad leaves, jalapenos and pickles but genuinely layered with a fat beef patty, turkey bacon, a well fried egg, melted cheddar in shape and a smear of BBQ sauce topped with a moist sesame seed bun accompanied by a sea of crispy, fat fries (Get the irony, everything here’s fat!) and salads. Sparing all the nit-picking in your usual burger, a burger of this calibre is definitely occasional.

Customized Burger (SGD 15-16++)
The customized “Build your own burger” obviously, comes with the filling of your choice. Ours included a Sesame seed bun, Beef patty, Fried egg, neat raw Onion rings and Cheddar cheese with a dash of Pepper sauce. Again, on a sea of crispy, fat fries and a fling of salads.

Friendly staff serving food to the table infront of us!
Fatpapas didn’t have much manpower owing to its massive customer jam except a few enthusiastic whiz-kid minions pacing up and about devotedly, giving Fatpapas never a moment of meh. (Fatpapas Minions FTW!) Although a queue of hungry customers waited outside, the staff or Haikel let not one flinch hinting us to gobble and get up, but went about giving thumbs up and smiles.

Fatpapas, to be simply put, an authentic food to treat your taste buds. We wouldn’t hesitate to re-visit.
