Just last week, the FoodNinja Team had a mini vacation across the border over at Kuala Lumpur. After roaming around and still hungry for more food, we stumbled upon Ru Di Fook Noodle Bar, located at Kota Damansara. Even though it was already 10pm but yet there's still three to four tables of customers is probably a good sign - and we decided to give it a try.
Decorated with neon lights and backgrounds of comic strips in a red overlay and paired together with an open bar counter, this noodle bar definitely gives off a very hipster feel - making you feel cool just hanging around here. The menu serves up Asian dishes yet with a western twist, such as foie gras in maki and pasta in replacement of ramen in their noodles section.
Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the service staff and brought to a table. When we asked for water, they gladly served up a whole pot of water in a decorative Chinese patterned jug. With some recommendation from their staff, we quickly placed our order and waited patiently for our food.
Luncheon Meat Fried in Wanton Skin RM9.80 |
Without much delays, we were first served up with the sides. First to arrive is the Luncheon Meat Fried in Wanton Skin. A simple, no-frills dish - it is what it is, luncheon meat wrapped and fried in a wanton skin. Crispy and savory, great alone and even better together with the accompanying sauce.
Foie Gras Aburi Salmon Maki RM18.80 |
Next up was the Foie Gras Aburi Salmon Maki. At the first look, we were wondering where the foie gras was and the red strands above looked similar to saffron. After asking the service staff, who kindly explained to us, the chopped pieces of "meat" atop the maki is actually the foie gras and the red strands are actually thinly sliced red chilli. Pop the maki in one mouthful, you can taste the rich flavour from the foie gras paired perfectly with the salmon. Albeit, the maki was a little loose compared to those we were used to eating in Singapore but nonetheless the maki is good enough.
Yummeh Clam Ginger Noodles RM20.80 |
Assam Saba Pasta RM20.80 |
Crazy Duck Confit Pasta RM20.80 |
Ru Di Fook was one of the most memorable restaurant bar we had dined during our short stay in Kuala Lumpur. The atmosphere was very cool and entertaining, the food was flavorful and yummy. We had an enjoyable and fun time there and we definitely think you would too.
