Ten Points Porridge Signature Porridge with Chinese Dough Stick
Weather is getting chilly in Singapore and it's the perfect time to snuggle in bed and have some hot food! Porridge is my all-time comfort food and for me it is a must to accompany it with some Chinese fritter stick (油条). Having a porridge in a cold day makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. In this particular article, I head down to Ten Points Porridge located at Rivervale Mall to get my porridge fix during the cold weather.

Row of Freshly Fried Chinese Fritters
Right when you enter the restaurant, you would be directed to order your food. The sitting area is small so do make sure you are able get a seat to enjoy your food.

The menu consist of a wide variety of porridge, noodles and side dishes but for first time visitor I would suggest going straight to their porridge selection. It's what they are known for after all!

After I paid for my meal, I was given a buzzer and I waited patiently for my turn to be called. While waiting, you can do as what I did and eat some of their other fried buns like the Red Bean Fried Bun, Salted Bun, the Butterfly Buns or the classic fritter stick 'You Tiao'.

Top: Red Bean Bun and Salted Bun (1 for SGD 1.10 & 2 for SGD 2)
Bottom: Butterfly Bun (1 for SGD 1.10 & 2 for SGD 2)

I ordered all of their fried fritters to give them a try. However, in my honest opinion, it was a little too oily. After a few bite, I feel that my throat was starting to close up. Also, the filling in salted bun was perhaps a little too insignificant. It's a little underwhelming as it's lacking in taste and flavor. I wish they could have been more generous with the filling. Nonetheless, it still beat other food stall fried fritters as those were freshly made. Out of all of their fried fritters, the fritter stick 'You Tiao' is my favourite as it's crispy and airy. In fact, I would come back just for their 'you tiao' even if I don't buy their porridge. It's also a snack on it's own

Signature Porridge (SGD 6.50) - Inside contains scallops, sliced fish, cuttlefish, pork meat ball, sliced lean pork, sliced chicken meat, century egg and salted egg

After a short wait, I finally can collect my porridge. I ordered their Signature Porridge which contains a variety of meat and seafood and also two kinds of egg - salted egg and century egg. The porridge was seasoned just right and there is no need for additional flavoring although soy sauce and white pepper are provided in handy bottles at the side of the table. Their porridge was a delight on it's own. The consistency of the porridge was thick and sticky, just the way I like it. Also, it was packed with many ingredients and every spoonful was like tasting a different variation of porridge. Although it was a little on the pricey side but I think it is totally worth the money.

Pig's Entrails Porridge with Sliced Fish (SGD 4.80)

My companion ordered the porridge with sliced pork and fish. Like their Signature porridge, the porridge was thick and flavorful. The fish was fresh and plump. The meat was tender and juicy. I could tell that both me and my companion were enjoying our bowl of porridge a lot as we slurped down to porridge without any complains. The porridge was indeed well executed.

Pork Liver Porridge (SGD 4)

We also ordered pork liver porridge to share. Pork liver is a delicacy food that not many will order because of its intense taste of blood. Just like many food, it's subjected to personal preference which in my case, I particularly enjoy the taste of it. The pork liver was cooked till the right donness as over cooking the pork liver can give is a powdery texture and undercooking it will be undesirable. You can also find thin strip of ginger cooked together in the porridge which helps to mask the gamey smell of pork liver.

In conclusion, Ten Points Porridge is a decent porridge place that is worth a second visit. They are opened as early as 6.30am in the morning so you can get your fix of your comfort food for breakfast first thing in the morning even if you need to work or go school early.

Expected Damage per person: SGD 4 - 6.50
